Kalu begins fresh Liga F chapter at Badalona
Former Nigeria U20 international Chinyere Kalu has joined Spanish Liga F side FC Badalona Women ahead of the 2026/27 season, as the 20-year-old midfielder looks to take another major step in her development.
Badalona confirmed Kalu’s arrival on the club’s official website, handing the Nigerian another opportunity to establish herself in Spain’s top division following previous spells with Real Betis and Levante.
Kalu already has valuable Liga F experience under her belt, having made nine appearances for Real Betis during the 2024/25 campaign. Her move to Badalona marks another chapter in a Spanish journey that has exposed her to the demands and intensity of elite women’s football.
The midfielder is expected to add physicality, energy and defensive solidity to Marc Ballester’s squad. Her ability to win back possession and provide balance in midfield could make her an important addition to Badalona’s plans for the new campaign.
Kalu also boasts international experience, having represented Nigeria at the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica. She featured in the Falconets’ impressive 3-1 group-stage victory over Canada.
Reflecting on her move to Badalona, Kalu said she has set clear targets for the new season and is determined to become a better player.
“I’ll start by saying all thanks to God because I wouldn’t have been here without Him. And before coming, I set a target for myself because I’ve played in Spain.
“It has been a bit difficult. I tried to set a target for myself this season to be a better player and work hard to achieve my goals.”
The Nigerian midfielder also revealed her excitement after learning that Badalona would be her next destination.
“When I got the information that I would be coming to Badalona, I was very excited. I just had this positive spirit in me, and I told myself I would go there and do well.
“I just have a positive mindset that everything will be good and that this season is going to be better.”
Kalu will now focus on helping Badalona make a strong start to the new Liga F campaign as she looks to establish herself as a key figure in the team.
FC Badalona Women will open their 2026/27 season away against Athletic Club Femenino on August 30, providing Kalu with an early opportunity to begin making her mark in her latest Spanish adventure.
