NBA: Thunder surge past Pacers in Game 5

The Oklahoma City Thunder are now just one victory away from capturing their first NBA championship.

Powered by Jalen Williams’ explosive 40-point performance, the Thunder secured a 120–109 win over the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night. Williams shot 14-of-25 from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and hit 9-of-12 from the free-throw line in 35 minutes of action. With the win, Oklahoma City now holds a 3–2 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The loss marked the first time the Pacers have dropped consecutive games in these playoffs.

Pascal Siakam led Indiana with 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting, adding three triples and converting 7-of-8 free throws in 33 minutes. For the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued his strong Finals run, tallying 31 points (9-21 FG, 13-14 FT), along with 10 assists, two rebounds, two steals, and four blocks in 38 minutes.

Indiana’s All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who is battling a calf injury, struggled under the intense defensive pressure from Lu Dort. Haliburton missed all six of his field goal attempts and finished with just four points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three turnovers in 34 minutes.

With Haliburton hampered, T.J. McConnell provided a spark off the bench. The veteran guard scored 18 points in just 22 minutes, including 13 in a third-quarter burst that helped keep the Pacers in the game.

Game 5 marked the Thunder’s most complete effort of the series. They found their rhythm from deep, and their defensive presence was felt throughout, particularly in the paint, where they recorded 12 blocks. Rookie centre Chet Holmgren contributed three of those rejections, anchoring the defense and setting the tone early.

Oklahoma City will now look to close out the series and clinch the title in Game 6.
