NFF celebrates Alex Iwobi for matching Salah's Premier League appearance record

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Super Eagles midfielder Alexander Iwobi after he became the joint-second most-capped African player in English Premier League history, drawing level with Egyptian star Mohamed Salah.

Iwobi has now made 328 appearances in the Premier League, reaching the milestone while featuring for Fulham in their 1-0 victory over Coventry City on Saturday.

The 30-year-old Nigerian international celebrated his 100th cap for the Super Eagles during the friendly encounter against Portugal this summer at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria, Portugal.

Acting NFF General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme MON, congratulated the midfielder on his latest achievement and expressed hope that he would go on to set a new record.

“The NFF celebrates Alex Iwobi for this new achievement and we wish him even greater glory. We will be very happy to see him become the African with the most appearances in the Premier League in the near future,” Ikpeme said.

Iwobi, who has won one silver and two bronze medals with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, is now 25 appearances away from equalling the all-time African record held by former Ivory Coast international Kolo Toure.

Toure made 353 appearances in the Premier League, widely regarded as one of the world's biggest and most prestigious football competitions.

During Fulham’s victory over Coventry City, Iwobi recorded 60 touches and completed 51 passes in his 73 minutes on the pitch, registering an impressive passing accuracy of 86.3 per cent.
