NSC Chairman applauds Waldorf Knoll's Inter House Sports
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has commended Waldorf Knoll for its well-organized inter-house sports event, describing it as a key platform for grassroots talent discovery in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s sports development agenda.
Dikko, who served as the chairman of the event, lauded the school’s commitment to nurturing young athletes, emphasizing that such initiatives are crucial for the future of Nigerian sports.
"This inter-house sports competition aligns perfectly with our objective of discovering and developing young talents. I have been involved in this event even before assuming my role as Chairman of the National Sports Commission, and it is something very dear to me. I am not just here for the fun of it; I will use my position to strengthen and promote it," Dikko stated.
He assured that the NSC would provide the necessary support to enhance future editions of the competition, making it even more impactful.
"In fact, we have set up a committee between the National Sports Commission and the Federal Ministry of Education to explore ways to collaborate in identifying young talents. Our recent meetings with vice-chancellors, directors, and provosts have been focused on integrating sports into the education system," he added.
Dikko further revealed that the University of Jos has positioned itself as the North Central Center of Excellence for sports education and is already working on establishing national degree programs in sports.
"We have received letters from the University of Jos, which has presented itself as a Center of Excellence for North Central. They are now focusing on setting up national degree programs in sports to align with international standards and create opportunities for Nigerian athletes," he concluded.
The NSC Chairman reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting grassroots sports initiatives, ensuring that young talents are nurtured and given opportunities to excel at the highest levels.
