NWFL Matchday two: All teams set for high stakes midweek battles
The 2024/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership returns on Wednesday with all teams in action, as Matchday Two rolls out across nine centres nationwide.
GROUP A
Ekiti Queens vs. Adamawa Queens
A first-ever topflight meeting between two sides with contrasting starts. Ekiti Queens return home after a narrow 2–1 defeat to Heartland Queens, eager to register their first points. Adamawa Queens, buoyed by a 2–0 win over Pacesetter Queens, travel in a confident mood and will look to continue their promising start.
Ibom Angels vs. Pacesetter Queens
Ibom Angels picked up a gritty point away to Naija Ratels and now target their first home victory. Pacesetter Queens endured a tough introduction to Premiership football after their 2–0 loss. Ibom Angels are favourites, but any slip could open the door to an early season upset.
Edo Queens vs. Heartland Queens
Edo Queens return to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium after a 3–2 heartbreak against Bayelsa Queens. Heartland Queens showed remarkable fight on opening day, coming from behind to beat Ekiti Queens. Recent history favours the hosts, Edo Queens have won the last three meetings, including a 2–0 home triumph last season.
Rivers Angels vs. Naija Ratels FC
Rivers Angels kick off their campaign after sitting out at Matchday One due to Castmog Ladies’ relegation. Naija Ratels opened with a respectable 0–0 draw in Uyo. The Port Harcourt giants hold the edge in this rivalry, winning five of the last six encounters, their latest, a 2–0 win at the 2023/24 Super Six.
GROUP B
FC Robo Queens vs. Confluence Queens
FC Robo Queens return to their Lagos base after a hard-earned 1–0 away win at Sunshine Queens. Confluence Queens arrive following a lively 2–2 draw with Abia Angels. While recent meetings slightly favour Confluence, Robo’s last home fixture in this pairing ended in a commanding 4–0 victory. A fast, entertaining contest is expected.
Remo Stars Ladies vs. Abia Angels
Remo Stars Ladies aim to turn performance into points after their opening-day 0–0 draw with Ahudiyannem Queens. Abia Angels showed attacking promise in their 2–2 draw at Confluence Queens. Remo Stars won this fixture 2–0 last season, though the reverse fixture finished 2–2 a result that cemented their historic Super Six debut.
Delta Queens vs. Sunshine Queens
Both teams hunt redemption after opening defeats. Delta Queens, beaten 2–1 by Nasarawa Amazons, boast a dominant head-to-head record, winning five of the last six against Sunshine Queens. With Sunshine winless in Asaba in recent years, this remains a daunting away assignment.
Osun Babes vs. Ahudiyannem Queens
Osun Babes’ return to the elite division began with a narrow 3–2 loss to Dannaz Ladies. Debutants Ahudiyannem Queens impressed with a disciplined 0–0 draw at Remo Stars Ladies. This will be the first-ever Premiership meeting between the clubs.
Dannaz Ladies vs. Nasarawa Amazons
Dannaz Ladies started brightly with a spirited 3–2 win over Osun Babes. Nasarawa Amazons edged Delta Queens 2–1 and already look sharp. While Dannaz are rising fast, they have never beaten the Amazons, their only point came from a goalless draw last season. Nasarawa have won the last three, including a clinical 3–0 win in Lagos.
