Asisat Oshoala scores as Al Hilal suffer first league defeat to Al Nassr

Six-time African Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala was on target once again, but her goal wasn’t enough to prevent Al Hilal from falling 3–1 to Al Nassr in the Saudi Women’s Premier League on Thursday, their first league defeat of the season.

Fresh off international duty with the Super Falcons, Oshoala wasted no time making an impact, opening the scoring in the ninth minute at Al Awwal Park. The Nigerian striker latched onto Jessica Silva’s clever assist to put Al Hilal ahead, extending her incredible scoring run to five goals and two assists in five league matches.

Al Hilal’s early lead didn’t last long, though, as Congolese midfielder Ruth Kipoyi equalized for the hosts before halftime, setting the stage for a thrilling second half in Riyadh.

After the break, Tanzanian forward Clara Luvanga took center stage, netting twice, first in the 60th minute and then deep into stoppage time, to complete a dramatic comeback and hand Al Hilal their first loss of the campaign.

Despite the defeat, Al Hilal remains second on the table, three points behind league leaders Al Nassr. Oshoala and her teammates will aim to return to winning ways when they face Al Ula on Saturday, November 15.
