Nigeria’s Flamingos continued their impressive run at the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup with a 2-0 victory over hosts Côte d’Ivoire in Yamoussoukro on Thursday.

The victory extended Nigeria’s perfect record in the competition to four wins from four matches, further underlining the Flamingos’ strong start to the regional tournament. 

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi gave Nigeria the perfect start when she opened the scoring just four minutes into the encounter.

The FC Robo Queens forward capitalised on an early opportunity to put the Flamingos in front and give the visitors an advantage they maintained through the remainder of the first half. 

Côte d’Ivoire attempted to respond as the game progressed, but Nigeria remained organised defensively and successfully protected their narrow advantage.

The hosts continued their search for an equaliser after the interval, forcing the Flamingos to remain disciplined as they attempted to manage the pressure and create opportunities of their own.

Nigeria eventually put the result beyond doubt seven minutes from full time when Pattra Oparanmegwa struck in the 83rd minute to double the Flamingos’ advantage.

Oparanmegwa’s late effort gave Nigeria the breathing space they needed as the Flamingos comfortably managed the closing stages to secure another clean-sheet victory. 

The 2-0 triumph means Nigeria have now won all four of their matches in the competition, having earlier defeated Niger Republic, Ghana and Burkina Faso.

The Flamingos’ latest victory also came against the tournament hosts, making the result another significant statement from the Nigerian side as the competition approaches its decisive stages.

Nigeria’s four-match winning run has been built on a combination of attacking efficiency and defensive discipline, with the team continuing to find ways to secure results against different opponents.

Adegbuyi’s early strike and Oparanmegwa’s late goal proved enough against Côte d’Ivoire, as Nigeria once again finished the match without conceding.

The Flamingos will now turn their attention to the next phase of the competition as they seek to maintain their unbeaten run and finish the WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup on a high.

With four victories from four matches, Nigeria have established themselves as one of the leading sides in the tournament and will be looking to carry their momentum into the concluding stages.
