Osimhen scores against Lille as Chukwueze, Boniface face European setbacks

Victor Osimhen scored for Galatasaray in their 4-2 victory over his former club Lille on Wednesday, while fellow Nigeria internationals Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Boniface face setbacks ahead of their respective European fixtures.

Osimhen’s goal underlined his importance to the Turkish champions as they continued their European campaign, with the striker delivering against the French side he previously represented.

However, the situation is less encouraging for Chukwueze, who will miss AC Milan’s European fixture against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday due to a left hip problem.

According to Milan News, the 26-year-old winger missed Milan’s final training session at Milanello and is expected to undergo a specialist examination to determine the severity of the injury.

Chukwueze reportedly developed the problem following Milan’s 3-2 Serie A victory over Atalanta on October 18. The Italian club has yet to provide a timeline for his return.

His absence further limits Milan’s attacking options as the team manages several fitness concerns ahead of the encounter.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen have left Boniface out of their squad for Thursday’s UEFA Europa League trip to Greece to face OFI Crete.

Leverkusen have selected Jonas Hofmann to replace the injured Martin Terrier, who is expected to remain sidelined until December.

Boniface has struggled for regular playing time this season, making just one appearance for the German club. The 25-year-old featured for only five minutes in Leverkusen’s opening-day defeat to SV Elversberg.

He has not played since that encounter, with competition for places in the attacking positions limiting his opportunities.

His omission from the Europa League squad represents another setback as he seeks to regain his place in Leverkusen’s plans.

The three Nigerian internationals are therefore experiencing contrasting fortunes in European football. While Osimhen made his mark against his former employers, Chukwueze faces a spell of uncertainty as he awaits an assessment of his injury, and Boniface continues to search for opportunities to feature for Leverkusen.
