George Ilenikhena faces late fitness test ahead of Guinea-Bissau clash
Nigerian international, George Ilenikhena, is a doubt for Nigeria’s crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea-Bissau after missing full training on Monday.
The 20-year-old striker is expected to undergo a late fitness test as coach Éric Chelle assesses his availability for the encounter.
“We have to manage George [Ilenikhena]. He has a slight issue, so we will see in the final training session,” Chelle said during his pre-match press conference on Monday.
Ilenikhena made an impressive debut for Nigeria by scoring against Madagascar, highlighting his potential to add another dimension to the Super Eagles’ attack.
His possible absence would further complicate Chelle’s attacking options, with Victor Osimhen already unavailable and Akor Adams also a doubt due to fitness concerns.
However, Nigeria still have alternatives in attack, with Taiwo Awoniyi, Tolu Arokodare and Moses Usor available for selection.
Usor has already demonstrated his impact, coming off the bench to score the winning goal against Madagascar and giving Chelle another attacking option ahead of the Guinea-Bissau clash.
