Paul Onuachu scores 16th goal of the season for Trabzonspor
Paul Onuachu underlined his reputation as one of the deadliest marksmen in Turkey by reclaiming the top scorer’s mantle in the Turkish Super Lig, netting his 16th goal of the campaign in a pulsating clash between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce.
The Nigerian striker, who had been nursing a slight injury, showed no signs of discomfort as he rose highest to power in a trademark header in the 43rd minute, restoring parity for Trabzonspor at 2-2 and igniting hopes of a crucial victory in the high stakes encounter.
Earlier, fellow Nigerian Chibuike Nwaiwu had set the tone for the hosts with an immediate impact, providing the assist for Trabzonspor’s opening goal just six minutes into the contest, signalling their intent in the fiercely contested top of the table battle.
Despite Trabzonspor’s resilience and Onuachu’s heroics, Fenerbahce had the final say, netting the decisive goal to seal a dramatic 3-2 win and strengthen their title credentials in the process.
The victory saw Fenerbahce consolidate second place with 52 points from 22 matches, opening a seven-point cushion over third placed Trabzonspor while remaining firmly in pursuit of league leaders Galatasaray, as the title race continues to gather momentum.
