President Tinubu Launches Scholarship for Caribbean Students, Proposes Visa Waivers

President Bola Tinubu has unveiled a scholarship programme for students from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), offering them opportunities to study at Nigerian universities starting from the next academic year.

The announcement was made on Monday during a joint press conference with Saint Lucian Prime Minister, Philip J. Pierre, in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia. The briefing followed a high-level working luncheon between President Tinubu and OECS leaders.

President Tinubu noted that the scholarship scheme is already underway and forms part of a broader Nigeria-OECS cooperation strategy aimed at deepening people-to-people ties, while advancing collaboration in education, trade, and development.

In a further boost to regional relations, President Tinubu also revealed that Nigeria is working on a visa waiver arrangement for holders of diplomatic and official passports from OECS countries.
