Sporting Lagos clinches NNL Super 4 after derby defeat to Inter Lagos
Sporting Lagos have emerged champions of the 2026 NNL Super Four after edging city rivals Inter Lagos on goal difference in a dramatic final day showdown at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.
Sporting Lagos entered the final round, knowing that a draw would officially seal the title, but their unbeaten run came to an end with a narrow 1–0 defeat in the Lagos derby against Inter Lagos. Still, Sporting Lagos had already done enough in their opening two games to finish top of the standings and lift the trophy.
Their campaign began with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Ranchers Bees before a dominant 4–0 demolition of Doma United on Matchday 2 firmly placed them in control of the competition.
Although Friday’s loss saw both Lagos clubs finish level on six points, Sporting Lagos’ superior goal difference proved decisive, handing them the championship crown and the ₦10 million prize money attached to it.
Inter Lagos also enjoyed an impressive outing in the tournament. After opening with a 1–0 defeat to Doma United, they bounced back with consecutive 1–0 wins over Ranchers Bees and Sporting Lagos, narrowly missing out on the title.
Ranchers Bees and Doma United finished third and fourth respectively, as all four teams celebrated promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League ahead of the 2026/27 season.
For Sporting Lagos, the triumph marks another major milestone in the club’s rapid rise since its establishment, reinforcing growing belief that they are ready to compete among Nigeria’s elite.
Inter Lagos, Ranchers Bees, and Doma United will also leave Ikenne with confidence and valuable experience as preparations begin for life in the NPFL.
