Super Falcons beat Comoros in Olympic Qualifiers first leg
Nigeria’s senior women's national team secured a 2-0 victory over Comoros in the first leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie, scoring twice in the second half to take control of the encounter.
The teams went into the break goalless despite Nigeria creating several promising opportunities in the opening 45 minutes.
Rasheedat Ajibade came close to breaking the deadlock, but her effort struck the woodwork as the Super Falcons struggled to find a breakthrough against a resilient Comoros defence.
However, Nigeria returned from the interval with renewed purpose and took the lead just three minutes into the second half.
Michelle Alozie opened the scoring in the 48th minute, finishing from close range after Gift Monday directed the ball into her path with a header.
The Super Falcons continued to press and doubled their advantage in the 59th minute through Uchenna Kanu.
Kanu produced a fine finish after Jennifer Echegini delivered an excellent corner kick, giving Nigeria a valuable two-goal cushion.
The victory gives the Super Falcons an encouraging advantage ahead of the return leg as they continue their quest to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
