Team Nigeria mixed relay triumph falls short of World Relays mark
Team Nigeria’s mixed 4x400m squad delivered a commanding performance in Gaborone, as Emmanuel Ojeli, Patience Okon-George, Samson Nathaniel, and Jecinta Lawrence combined to secure a well earned victory.
The quartet crossed the line in 3:16.76 seconds, finishing ahead of the field to claim top spot in the mixed relay event. Their performance showcased coordination, speed, and growing chemistry among the athletes on the international stage.
However, despite the win, the team narrowly missed out on automatic qualification for the upcoming World Relays, as their time fell short of the 3:15.07 seconds standard required to book a direct slot.
Still, the result underlines Nigeria’s steady rise in mixed relay competitions, with the team building momentum and confidence as they continue to compete against top global opposition.
