Unity Cup 2026: Debutant Femi Azeez Fires Super Eagles Into Final With Brace Vs Zimbabwe
Debutant Femi Azeez scored twice as Nigeria national football team defeated Zimbabwe national football team 2-0 to qualify for the final of the Unity Cup in London on Tuesday night.
The Millwall F.C. winger gave Nigeria the perfect start, opening the scoring inside the first five minutes with a composed finish on his senior international debut.
Azeez completed his brace in the 63rd minute to cap an outstanding first appearance for the Super Eagles and seal Nigeria’s place in the final of the four-nation tournament.
Defending champions Nigeria dominated the encounter from start to finish, controlling possession and creating several scoring opportunities while restricting Zimbabwe to very few clear chances.
Head coach Éric Chelle expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance, particularly praising the impact of the new players introduced during the competition.
The victory also ended Nigeria’s recent run of draws against Zimbabwe, with the Super Eagles producing one of their most convincing performances against the Southern Africans in recent meetings.
Azeez, who impressed for Millwall in the English Championship during the just-concluded season, further boosted his growing reputation with his clinical display in London.
The 24-year-old’s performance is expected to attract increased transfer interest ahead of the summer window following his breakthrough on the international stage.
Nigeria will now face the winner of the second semi-final between India national football team and Jamaica national football team, scheduled for Wednesday.
