Nigeria shut out of all men's categories at 2026 CAF Awards
Nigeria will have no representatives in any of the men's categories at the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards after failing to secure a single nomination across the six award categories.
The absence of Nigerian nominees is a major disappointment for the country's football community, particularly given Nigeria's rich football history and reputation as one of Africa's leading football nations.
The Super Eagles, who have represented the country at several major continental and global competitions, were not nominated for the Men's National Team of the Year award.
Nigeria also failed to produce a candidate for the prestigious Men's Player of the Year award, while no Nigerian footballer made the shortlist for the Men's Interclub Player of the Year category.
The country's absence extended to the Men's Goalkeeper of the Year award, with no Nigerian shot-stopper recognised among the nominees.
In the youth category, Nigeria equally missed out, as no player from the country secured a place on the shortlist for the Men's Young Player of the Year award.
At club level, no Nigerian side was nominated for the Men's Club of the Year award, leaving the country without representation in the category.
The six categories in which Nigeria failed to secure nominations are:
- Men's National Team of the Year
- Men's Player of the Year
- Men's Interclub Player of the Year
- Men's Goalkeeper of the Year
- Men's Young Player of the Year
- Men's Club of the Year
The complete absence of Nigerian nominees underlines a disappointing showing for the country in this year's men's awards selection.
Despite Nigeria's strong football tradition, the 2026 CAF Awards will proceed without any Nigerian contender in the men's categories, leaving the country's representatives to focus on other areas of the continental football calendar.
