WAEC appoint seasoned administrator Suleiman Kum as new head of national office
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has described its new Head of National Office (HNO), Suleiman Kum, as a seasoned test developer, administrator and executive with extensive experience in examination management and security.
The Head of Public Affairs, WAEC Nigeria, Moyosola Adesina, said Kum joined the Council on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II and had since served in several key operational and administrative positions.
According to the statement, Kum played a leading role in introducing several technological and administrative innovations within the Council.
He was credited with pioneering Variable Data Printing and enhanced code-security features in security printing, as well as replacing council-wide attendance systems with facial-recognition biometric devices.
He also led the implementation of Achievement Tests through the Computer-Based Examination (CBT) mode, the statement said.
Kum was further described as having extensive expertise in test development, examination administration, security and the management of branch and zonal offices.
“Throughout his career, he has driven administrative and technological innovations, including establishing the Gusau office as a Custodial Centre,” the statement said.
A native of Plateau State, Kum holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). He is also currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the institution.
Over the course of his career, Kum has held several senior positions, including Assistant Registrar II/Head of Exams Security in Awka; Assistant Registrar I/Head of Exams Security in Yola; Assistant Registrar I/Head of Exams Security in Makurdi; Senior Assistant Registrar I/Branch Controller in Gusau; and Principal Assistant Registrar/Branch Controller in Kano.
He also served as Deputy Registrar/Head of the Security Printing Department; Deputy Registrar/Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt; Deputy Registrar/Zonal Coordinator in Ikeja; Director of Administration; and Senior Deputy Registrar/Test Administration.
The statement said Kum had demonstrated integrity, diligence, innovation and commitment to service throughout his career.
“His leadership across various portfolios has earned him numerous institutional commendations, accolades and awards within the Council and beyond,” it added.
