NAF denies arrest of crew, confirms precautionary landing of C-130 Aircraft in Burkina Faso
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dismissed widespread reports claiming that one of its C-130 transport aircraft and crew members were arrested in Burkina Faso, clarifying that the aircraft only executed a standard precautionary landing due to a technical concern.
In a statement released on 9 December 2025, NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said the aircraft was on a ferry mission to Portugal when the crew detected a technical issue shortly after departing Lagos on 8 December.
“Following takeoff from Lagos, the crew observed a technical concern which necessitated a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, the nearest airfield,” Ejodame stated.
He explained that the action was consistent with global aviation safety procedures and international operational protocols, dismissing claims that the aircraft or personnel were detained by Burkinabé authorities.
“NAF crew is safe and have received cordial treatment from the host authorities,” he said, stressing that the narratives of arrest or detention circulating on social media were entirely false.
Ejodame added that the incident had not disrupted the broader objective of the mission, noting that plans were underway to resume the scheduled operation once technical assessments were completed.
He expressed appreciation for the cooperation extended to the crew, underscoring that the Nigerian Air Force prioritizes the safety of its personnel in all operations.
“The Nigerian Air Force remains professionally committed to strict compliance with operational procedures and safety standards, ensuring the protection of its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional mandate,” the statement concluded.
