WAFCON 2024: CAF names record number of officials as Nigeria's Yemisi Akintoye makes list
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the list of match officials for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place from July 5 to 26 in Morocco. Among those selected is Nigeria’s Eunice Yemisi Akintoye, who will serve as one of the tournament referees.
CAF confirmed a total of 46 officials, surpassing the previous high of 40 from the 2022 Finals. The lineup includes 18 referees, 18 assistant referees, and 10 Video Assistant Referees (VAR) from 30 different countries on the continent.
Host nation Morocco leads with five officials, including Bouchra Karboubi, who officiated at major competitions such as the TotalEnergies CAFAfrica Cup of Nations, Côte d’Ivoire 2023 and the Paris Olympic Games.
Salima Mukansanga, who was in charge of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022 final, is among the accredited VAR officials.
