Yellow Greens off to tough start as Hong Kong cruise to eight wicket win in T20I Tri-Series opener

Nigeria’s senior men’s cricket team, the Yellow Greens, began their T20I Tri-Series campaign in Windhoek, Namibia, on a disappointing note after suffering an eight-wicket defeat to Hong Kong in their opening match.

Batting first, Nigeria were bowled out for 126 in 19.4 overs. Selim Salau provided the main resistance with a quick 41, while Chima Akachukwu added a useful contribution to help push the total to a modest score.

In reply, Hong Kong made light work of the chase, reaching 127 for 2 in just 16.2 overs. Anshuman Rath played a composed and dominant innings, finishing unbeaten on 72 to guide his side home comfortably.

Nigeria’s bowling attack showed brief resistance, with Sylvester Okpe and Peter Aho each picking up a wicket, but they were unable to slow Hong Kong’s steady progress toward the target.

The result leaves Nigeria searching for a stronger response in their next fixture as they look to revive their tournament hopes.
