African Champions to Compete in FIFA Women’s Club World Cup and Champions Cup

FIFA has confirmed the launch of two global club tournaments that will offer African women’s teams greater exposure on the international stage.

The two competitions are the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, debuting in 2028, and the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, which begins in 2026.

The Women’s Club World Cup will feature 16 teams, including representatives from Africa, while the Women’s Champions Cup will bring together the six winners of continental club championships, offering an additional competitive platform for Africa’s best clubs.

Infantino hailed these tournaments as “a milestone moment for women’s football”, adding, “These competitions will give female players a global stage to shine and reinforce the competitive balance in club football.”

With Africa’s top women’s clubs now set to compete on the world stage, these initiatives mark a significant step toward developing women’s football across the continent.

The two African representatives for the inaugural championship will be known at the 2025 CAF Women's Champions League later in the year at a yet-to-be decided venue.
