Nigeria defender Ashleigh Plumptre was on target as Al Ittihad secured a 4-2 victory over reigning champions Al Nassr in the Saudi Women’s Premier League on Saturday.

Plumptre converted from the penalty spot as Al Ittihad continued their perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign with a second consecutive victory. 

The Nigerian international’s goal came during an impressive attacking display by Al Ittihad, who followed up their opening-day 3-1 victory over Al Hilal with another statement result against one of the leading sides in Saudi women’s football.

Al Ittihad came into the encounter with confidence after defeating Al Hilal in their opening fixture, while Al Nassr were looking to build momentum as they began their campaign.

The hosts established control of the contest and were rewarded with goals as they took advantage of opportunities in the final third.

Plumptre, operating from her familiar defensive role, also contributed at the other end by confidently converting the penalty to add her name to the scoresheet.

The victory was particularly significant because Al Nassr entered the fixture as the reigning Saudi Women’s Premier League champions.

Al Ittihad’s 4-2 success therefore gave the Jeddah club maximum points from their opening two matches and moved them level on points with early leaders Al-Qadsiah. 

The result also underlined Al Ittihad’s strong start under Spanish coach Raúl Pérez, with the team producing another high-scoring performance after their comeback victory over Al Hilal.

The goal provides another positive moment for Plumptre following her return from injury. She had previously scored for Al Ittihad in the Saudi Women’s Super Cup semi-final against Al Hilal earlier in September. 

The defender captained Al Ittihad in that Super Cup encounter and scored in first-half stoppage time on her return from foot surgery before Al Hilal eventually won 2-1. 

Plumptre will now look to build on her latest contribution as Al Ittihad continue their Saudi league campaign and challenge among the leading teams.

The victory over Al Nassr gives the club an encouraging early platform as the 2026/27 season gathers momentum.
