Bouchra Hajij elected to lead the Association of African Olympic Sports Confederations

Moroccan sports executive Bouchra Hajij has been elected President of the Association of African Olympic Sports Confederations (CASOL).

The historic vote took place on Friday, November 6, 2026, during a General Assembly held alongside the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.

Hajij, who already holds key leadership roles as President of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) and Vice-President of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), was chosen by consensus among the heads and delegates of Africa’s Olympic sports bodies.

The assembly was presided over by Mustapha Berraf, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA).

Following her election, Hajij outlined a bold vision focused on unifying African sports confederations, expanding modern sports infrastructure, and expanding opportunities for youth and women across the continent. She also pledged to elevate Africa’s voice within global sports governance bodies.

Her new appointment expands on her transformative track record with the CAVB, where she has championed continent-wide sports development and cross-institutional collaboration.

Representatives across the sports movement welcomed her appointment as a vital step toward stronger unity, cooperation, and solidarity across African athletics.
