Bayelsa Queens fall, Rivers Angels run riot as Bayelsa Queens remain unbeaten on NWFL Premiership Matchday seven
Robo Queens’ perfect start to the season came to an end on Matchday 7 of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, as they suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Remo Stars Ladies. Elsewhere, Rivers Angels delivered a dominant 5–0 response against Heartland Queens, while Bayelsa Queens maintained their unbeaten run with an emphatic 4–1 away victory.
At the Remo Stars Stadium, the South West derby produced a crucial boost for the hosts, who snapped a three-game winless run. Cynthia Mega struck in the 73rd minute to hand Remo Stars Ladies maximum points and inflict Robo Queens’ first loss of the campaign. It also marked the first time Robo Queens failed to find the back of the net this season.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers Angels roared back from their South-South derby setback against Bayelsa Queens with a commanding display at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Ramotalahi Kareem netted a hat-trick in the 14th, 33rd and 58th minutes, while Abasiofon Uwah added a brace in the 22nd and 38th minutes to complete a 5–0 demolition of Heartland Queens. The result makes Rivers Angels the only side this season to record multiple hat-trick scorers.
Bayelsa Queens continued their impressive run with a 4–1 victory over Adamawa Queens in Makwada. Captain Blessing Ilivieda opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Omo Afensemi restored parity for the hosts. Janet Akekoromowei fired Bayelsa back in front in the 36th minute, while Kindness Ifeanyi sealed the win with a second-half brace in the 45th and 66th minutes. Ilivieda now has three goals this season, Akekoromowei has scored in three consecutive matches, and Ifeanyi leads the league scoring chart with five goals.
At the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Edo Queens edged Pacesetter Queens 2–1 in a tightly contested encounter. Saidat Adebiyi gave the hosts an early lead in the 7th minute, before Aminat Adebisi equalised shortly after the break. Doosuur Atume restored Edo Queens’ advantage in the 58th minute, extending her scoring streak to five consecutive matches, just two shy of Bolaji Olamide’s record of seven straight games for Remo Stars Ladies last season.
Dannaz Ladies finally halted a four-match losing streak with a hard-fought 2–1 win over Ahudiyannem Queens. Amarachi Anusillem opened the scoring in the 58th minute, Chizaram Onyenze levelled in the 71st, but Adewunmi Akintola’s late strike in the 87th minute proved decisive. Despite registering their first NWFL goal, Ahudiyannem Queens remain without a win this season.
Abia Angels claimed a shock 1–0 away victory over Delta Queens at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, with Blessing Okon’s 55th-minute effort ending the hosts’ three-game winning streak. Osun Babes and Sunshine Queens settled for a goalless draw at the Lanreleke Sports Complex, while Nasarawa Amazons rescued a dramatic 1–1 draw away to Confluence Queens after Omotoke Ogunfuwa struck late to cancel out Seember Emmanuel’s early opener.
In Uyo, Ibom Angels defeated Ekiti Queens 2–1 at the Township Stadium in a match played behind closed doors following crowd disturbances in their previous home fixture against Bayelsa Queens. Happiness Agboye gave Ibom Angels an early advantage in the 10th minute, Seun Fakunle equalised for Ekiti Queens in the 30th, but Wami Georgeline’s 80th-minute winner sealed all three points for the hosts.
