Delta Queens sack coach Samson Keshi over gross misconduct

Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side Delta Queens have relieved head coach Samson Keshi of his duties with immediate effect following allegations of gross misconduct and unprofessional behaviour.

In a statement issued by the Delta State Sports Commission, the decision was described as necessary to protect the progress and stability of the club ahead of the 2026/2027 season. The Commission cited Keshi’s actions as detrimental to team harmony and overall performance.

Keshi, who was appointed at the start of the campaign, was reportedly involved in repeated acts of bullying towards players and officials, persistent defiance of management directives, and frequent threats to resign despite several formal warnings. His conduct during Delta Queens’ recent fixture against Ahudiyannen Queens in Umuahia on January 14, 2026, also came under scrutiny, with the Commission accusing him of raising false allegations against the opposition, thereby creating unnecessary tension around the match.

The dismissal follows a run of disappointing results, capped by a 1–0 home defeat to lower-ranked Abia Angels FC, a setback believed to have sealed his fate.

In the wake of Keshi’s exit, Maureen Ajibade has been appointed as the new Head Coach of Delta Queens, with Susan Aliyah and Jennifer Ajuyah named as her assistants. The Commission has also directed Keshi to immediately hand over all club property to the General Manager.

The development signals a major shake-up at the club as Delta Queens seek to steady their campaign and restore discipline within the squad. Executive Chairman, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, has reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline, warning that any misconduct by players or officials will attract swift and decisive sanctions.
