'The pressure does not get to me' - Tobi Amusan eyes more success

Nigeria's sprint hurdles queen, Tobi Amusan, says competing without the burden of pressure and enjoying a clean bill of health have been the driving forces behind her impressive resurgence this season.

The world record holder delivered another commanding performance on Sunday, equalling her season's best of 12.28 seconds to win the women's 100m hurdles at the Paris Diamond League and continue her fine run of form in 2026.

Reflecting on the race, Amusan admitted the hot conditions were far from ideal but insisted she was determined to produce a winning performance regardless of the weather.

"I do not like the warm weather at all, but whatever the weather, I was going to come out here and kill it. The execution was alright," she said.

For the Nigerian star, remaining injury-free has been the biggest victory after battling fitness issues in previous seasons.

"I am just happy being injury free. The pressure does not get to me."

Amusan also credited her strong support network for helping her stay calm and focused on the biggest stages.

"I have grace, which is the very strong system around me and that finish line. So, I am never worried about pressure on the night."

The reigning world record holder acknowledged that no two races are ever the same, but revealed she approaches every competition with the confidence to give her best.

"My approach to the hurdles varies. Sometimes, you are thinking, 'What has just happened?' On other days, it is really sloppy and I still come out and run a fast time. I try to take a shot at every race."

Looking ahead, Amusan confirmed that her next assignment will be the prestigious Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, although she has yet to decide on the rest of her competition schedule.

"I'll be competing at the Prefontaine Classic next, but I am yet to decide where to race after that."

Her victory in Paris is another sign that the 2022 world champion is returning to her very best. With confidence growing, fitness restored, and the Commonwealth Games fast approaching, Amusan will head to Eugene eager to maintain her momentum and strengthen her bid for more titles in what is shaping up to be an impressive 2026 campaign.
