Bukola Olopade hails emerging talents at Commonwealth Games trials
Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has expressed optimism about the future of Nigerian sports following the outstanding performances recorded at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games National Trials in Lagos.
Speaking after monitoring events at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, Olopade commended the quality of athletes on display and highlighted the growing number of talents discovered across the country in recent years.
“The talents we have discovered across the country in recent years have been enormous. What we need to do now is improve our sporting infrastructure and equip our coaches for better productivity,” Olopade stated.
The NSC Director General noted that Nigeria possesses a vast reservoir of sporting talent capable of excelling on the international stage. He stressed that attention must now shift towards developing modern training facilities and strengthening the capacity of coaches to help athletes maximize their potential.
According to Olopade, consistent investment in sports infrastructure and human capital development remains essential for transforming young prospects into elite athletes capable of winning medals at major global competitions.
He also praised the level of commitment, discipline, and competitiveness demonstrated by participants at the trials, describing the event as a crucial platform for identifying the nation's best athletes ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
