CAF moves early to safeguard fair play, summons elite referees to Cairo camp
With Africa’s premier club competitions approaching their most defining moments, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has shifted focus to strengthening officiating standards by convening its top referees for a crucial preparatory camp in Cairo.
The five day programme, scheduled for March 4 to 8, signals CAF’s proactive approach to ensuring that match officials are fully equipped to handle the mounting pressure that comes with the knockout rounds of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
Rather than waiting for controversies to arise, CAF is investing in preventive measures designed to sharpen referees’ judgment and consistency.
The camp will place heavy emphasis on improving decision making accuracy, technical interpretation of the laws of the game, and effective control of high-intensity matches.
Participants will undergo a comprehensive training routine that blends classroom based theoretical lessons with practical on field exercises.
In addition, video analysis sessions will allow referees to review critical match scenarios, while fitness tests will confirm their physical readiness for the demanding fixtures ahead.
CAF’s latest initiative highlights its determination to protect the integrity of its competitions by ensuring that officiating keeps pace with the growing quality and competitiveness of African club football, especially as teams battle for continental glory in the decisive stages.
