Chiamaka Nnadozie ready to welcome fellow Nigerian Zadok Yohanna to Brighton

Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has expressed her excitement over the arrival of Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna at Brighton & Hove Albion, promising to help the teenage winger settle into life in England following his move to the Premier League club.

Yohanna recently completed a five-year deal with Brighton from Swedish side AIK Stockholm, with the Seagulls reportedly beating off competition from several top European clubs to secure the signature of one of Africa's brightest young talents.

Nnadozie, who is currently in Nigeria after featuring in the Super Falcons' recent friendly victories over Senegal, said she was delighted to see another Nigerian join the Brighton family.

"When I first saw the news online, I was really happy for him," Nnadozie told ESPN.

"I was happy for him because, just like he said, he's been through a lot and he knows where he came from.

"Also, it's just so nice to have a Nigerian mate in the team."

The three-time CAF Women's Goalkeeper of the Year revealed that Brighton frequently organises activities that bring together players from both the men's and women's teams, making Yohanna's arrival even more meaningful.

"Sometimes both teams, female and male teams, go for bonding activities and they usually pair players based on where they come from," she explained.

"For example, if there's a player from one country in our team and another from the same country in the men's team, they pair them together so they can talk and get to know each other.

"So it's really good for me to have a Nigerian mate in the team."

Yohanna chose Brighton because of the club's strong reputation for developing young players, with the teenager citing the club's style of play and pathway to first-team football as major factors behind his decision.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has already praised the winger's qualities, describing him as a player capable of making a significant impact in attacking areas.

Having successfully adapted to life in England herself, Nnadozie understands the challenges the teenager may face as he begins a new chapter in his career.

The 25-year-old joined Brighton Women from Paris FC in the summer of 2025 and enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign in the Women's Super League, keeping six clean sheets in 19 league appearances and earning a place in the WSL Team of the Season.

Now firmly established as one of Brighton's key players and Nigeria's first-choice goalkeeper, Nnadozie is eager to help Yohanna feel at home.

"Of course, I will welcome him properly when I get back," she said.

"The best thing is that we're in the same environment, so it will be easy to see each other.

"I'm going to welcome him well, help him in any way he needs, show him around, take him to restaurants and things like that.

"I'm really happy for him and happy to have another Nigerian at the club."
