Coach Folabi Ojekunle laments coaches plight in Nigeria
Coach Folabi Ojekunle has appealed to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to intervene in the welfare and professional development of coaches in the country, expressing concern over the limited duration allocated for coaching refresher courses.
Ojekunle argued that the few days set aside for coaches to update their knowledge are inadequate, particularly for the CAF B Licence programme.
“Six-days is not enough to Refresh a CAF B course”.
According to him, coaching education should focus on genuine learning rather than merely obtaining certificates.
“CAF B programme take much longer to complete, with all sincerity, coaches should not just acquire a certificate without the knowledge”.
The experienced tactician also decried what he described as the neglect of coaches in Nigeria, noting that many practitioners struggle financially despite their contributions to the growth of the game.
“They are not just sincere with coaches in Nigeria. It’s the reason coaches earns peanuts and die in penury while administrators without any certificate smile to bank daily”.
Ojekunle called on football authorities to prioritise coaches’ welfare, improve training opportunities and ensure that coaching certification programmes are conducted in a manner that enhances competence and professionalism within Nigerian football.
