Doubles and mixed doubles shine at Bet9ja Southeast Badminton Championship
The doubles and mixed doubles categories at the Bet9ja Foundation Southeast Badminton Championship provided thrilling displays of teamwork, resilience, and high-intensity competition, keeping fans at Enugu’s Indoor Sports Multipurpose Gymnasium Hall on the edge of their seats.
In the Men’s Doubles, Anambra’s Jovita Anikwe and Owen Chidi combined experience and pace to defeat Enugu’s Eya Chikamso and Nmesoma Udechukwu in straight sets, 21–11, 21–17.
Anikwe, who had earlier retained his men’s singles title, partnered seamlessly with Chidi, showing sharp court coverage and coordination.
The Women’s Doubles final saw Queen Chibuzor and Okoro Chinyere of Abia State deliver a commanding performance against Enugu’s Uju Joy and Ada Okoro. The Abia duo’s quick reflexes, fluid exchanges, and tactical discipline dominated rallies, earning enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
The Mixed Doubles final proved the tournament’s highlight. Abia’s Emeka Uzukwu and Queen Chibuzor showcased exceptional chemistry and composure to overcome the experienced Anambra pair of Jovita Anikwe and Chioma Udeh.
Despite Anikwe’s aggressive net play and Udeh’s sharp returns, the Abia duo secured key points to claim a hard-fought victory.
Tournament officials praised the high standard of play across all doubles categories, noting that the events added excitement and depth to the three-day championship, which featured athletes from Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo states.
