FC Robo Queens book NWFL Premiership Super Six spot after Matchday 16
FC Robo Queens have officially punched their ticket to the NWFL Premiership Super Six from Group B, capping off a gripping Matchday 16 that delivered goals, dominance, and a fair share of controversy across centres.
At the Inspire SA Pitch in Lagos, Robo Queens showed resilience and composure to edge Remo Stars Ladies 1-0 in a tightly fought contest. The breakthrough arrived in first-half stoppage time, when Rafiu Tosin rose highest to power home Rodiat Yusuf’s corner her sixth goal of the season proving decisive. Remo Stars Ladies had earlier thought they’d taken the lead, only to see their effort ruled out, while goalkeeper Nkiruka Obidinma kept them alive with a string of fine saves. Still, Robo Queens held their nerve to secure all three points and confirm their place among the league’s elite.
In Lafia, Nasarawa Amazons delivered a commanding performance, dismantling Confluence Queens 4-0 to move within touching distance of qualification. Ayatsea Hembafan set the tone early with a first-half brace, before Omotoke Ogunfuwa extended the lead. Osinachi Ugbala added further gloss after the break, capping a dominant display that underlined the Amazons’ Super Six credentials.
But the most dramatic scenes unfolded in Aba, where Abia Angels claimed a 2-0 win over Delta Queens under chaotic circumstances. Funmilayo Adefuye broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, sparking protests from Delta Queens. Tensions escalated moments later when their coach instructed players to leave the pitch mid-game. In the confusion that followed with some players exiting and others scrambling back, Miracle Usani seized the moment, slotting into an unguarded net just two minutes later to seal the result in bizarre fashion.
Elsewhere, Ahudiyannem Queens bounced back to winning ways with a composed 2-0 victory over Dannaz Ladies in Umuahia. Mary Lucky converted from the penalty spot before Tobi Oghenerugba wrapped up the points in the second half.
Sunshine Queens continued their resurgence under coach Tayo Onilude, cruising to a 3-0 win over Osun Babes in Akure. Goals from Moyinoluwa Owolabi, Toyin Oyewale, and Bunmi Adenuga extended their unbeaten run to three matches.
Bayelsa Queens remain the team to beat in Group A, holding on to top spot with a 2-0 victory over Adamawa Queens, thanks to strikes from Sofiat Bankole and Delight Isaac at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
In other results, Heartland Queens secured a notable 2-1 win over Rivers Angels in Owerri, while Pacesetter Queens and Edo Queens settled for a goalless draw in Ibadan, with the hosts left to rue a missed penalty.
As the regular season edges closer to its climax, the race for Super Six places continues to intensify with Robo Queens already through and Nasarawa Amazons now firmly on the brink.
