G12, Sunshine Stars U-19 advance as Federation Cup Playoffs deliver drama
Lagos-based outfit G12 and Sunshine Stars U19 headline the list of teams that booked their places in the next stage of the 2026 President Federation Cup National Playoffs after an action-packed Wednesday across different centres.
Just days after finishing as runners-up in the Lagos State FA Cup, G12 showed resilience and composure to edge Osun State champions Dokkal Khairu FC in a tense contest at the MKO Abiola Arena in Abeokuta. After 90 minutes failed to produce a goal, the Lagosians held their nerve from the spot to seal a 3-2 penalty shootout victory.
In Osogbo, Ondo State champions Sunshine Stars U19 delivered a confident performance to defeat Harmony FC of Ekiti 3-1 and continue their impressive run in the competition.
Elsewhere, Westgate FC of Benin secured a solid 2-0 win over Amanda FC of Anambra in Enugu to progress comfortably into the next round.
One of the most dramatic moments of the day came in the clash between Adamawa Academy and El-Kanemi Warriors Jnr. After an evenly contested battle, both sides were separated by a lengthy penalty shootout, with Adamawa Academy eventually emerging 8-7 winners in a thrilling finish.
In the women’s category, NAF Queens, Mighty Jets Mata, Ikukuoma Queens, and Esthinghton FC all recorded commanding victories to cruise into the next phase of the tournament.
