Gbayi Judo Foundation to hold refresher course for Southwest coaches and referees

 

 

The Gbayi Judo Foundation, in collaboration with the Lagos State Judo Association, is set to organize a two-day seminar for judo coaches and referees across the Southwest region. Tagged “Training the Trainer and Equipping the Judges,” the event will take place at Rowe Park, Lagos State, from February 13 to 14.

 

The seminar aims to enhance the technical proficiency of coaches and referees, ensuring they are equipped with modern techniques and updated rules in the sport. It will feature morning sessions at 8 a.m. and evening sessions at 4 p.m. daily, providing participants with comprehensive training.

 

Omoba Segun Gbayi, the visionary founder of the Gbayi Judo Foundation, is a former judoka who represented Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ogun State, and Nigeria in various competitions. His extensive experience in the sport has fueled his passion for developing judo talent and raising the standards of the game in Nigeria.

 

In addition to the upcoming seminar, the foundation has sponsored five judo coaches on scholarships to the National Institute of Sports (NIS), further underlining its commitment to capacity building and professional development in the sport.

 

With these initiatives, the foundation continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the standards of judo in Nigeria, fostering a culture of excellence among practitioners and officials.
