Golden State Valkyries outclass Sparks in overtime thriller

The Golden State Valkyries edged past the Los Angeles Sparks in a thrilling 89–81 overtime victory. Janelle Salaun led the way with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Kayla Thornton got 18 points and 11 rebounds capping it off with a clutch 3-pointer with 37.9 seconds left in OT to seal the win.
Golden State dominated the rebounding,49–34, including a decisive 17–6 advantage on the offensive end. Los Angeles, meanwhile, struggled in overtime missing 8 of their 9 field goal attempts.
Temi Fagbenle was a defensive force, finishing with 14 points, 13 rebounds, four steals, and four blocks. Carla Leite chipped in 15 points, and Monique Billings added 10 for the Valkyries.
Despite standout performances from Kelsey Plum, who recorded 24 points, seven assists, reaching 1,000 career assists, and four 3-pointers and Dearica Hamby with 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, the Sparks fell short.
Elsewhere, the Indiana Fever are set to face the Atlanta Dream, who will be without Caitlin Clark for a fifth straight game due to a left quad strain. Dream head coach Stephanie White noted Clark has returned to light practice and will be back into action soon.
Indiana comes off a dominant 79–52 win over the Suns, while Atlanta saw their four-game win streak snapped by Connecticut. Both teams will be looking to get a statement performance.
Still in the Eastern conference, the undefeated New York Liberty (8–0) are aiming to extend their perfect start as they face off against the Chicago Sky.
