Motsepe heads to Tanzania as CAF steps up AFCON 2027 readiness check
Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe is expected in Tanzania on Thursday as the continent’s football governing body intensifies its assessment of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Motsepe’s visit will see him inspect the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, one of the key venues being prepared for the tournament. The inspection is expected to offer CAF an opportunity to evaluate the state of Tanzania’s football infrastructure and the progress being made ahead of the continental showpiece.
The CAF president is expected to be received by Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President Wallace Karia before holding talks with Tanzanian Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba.
Discussions are expected to focus on the country’s preparations and broader organisational plans for hosting the tournament.
Motsepe will be accompanied by a delegation of senior CAF officials, including Second Vice President Kurt Okraku, Fifth Vice President Feizal Sidat, CECAFA President Paulos Weldehaimanot and CAF Acting Secretary General Samson Adamu of Nigeria.
Tanzania is co hosting the 2027 AFCON alongside Uganda and Kenya, marking a major tournament assignment for the three East African nations.
With preparations already underway across the region, Motsepe’s inspection is expected to provide CAF with a closer look at Tanzania’s progress and the level of readiness ahead of the competition.
