Goodness Iredia: Nigeria athlete faces three-year ban

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced the suspension of Goodness Iredia, a long and triple jumper, tested positive for a banned substance.

The prohibited substance was Metenolone. A metabolite, 3a-Hydroxy-1-methylene-5a-androstan-17-one, was also found. The failed doping test led to the sanction for the 20-year-old athlete.

Iredia's urine sample was taken on 31 January 2025. The test was during a competition in Louisville, USA. Code 8081364 identified the sample. A WADA lab in South Jordan, Utah, analysed it.

The lab reported an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) on 19 February 2025. Metenolone, an anabolic steroid, and its metabolite were present. The AIU reviewed the findings under ISRM Article 5. Iredia lacked a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for the substance.

The AIU found no errors in the testing process. The International Standard for Testing and Investigations (ISTI) was followed. The International Standard for Laboratories (ISL) was also adhered to. These standards ensured a valid result.

Iredia was provisionally suspended on 26 February 2025. The AIU informed him of the AAF. They also notified him of potential Anti-Doping Rule Violations. Rule 2.1 ADR and Rule 2.2 ADR were cited.

Iredia admitted to the violations on 5 March 2025. He signed an Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violations form. He accepted the consequences. This admission confirmed his three-year ban. He waived his right to appeal the charges.

The standard ban is four years. Iredia's admission reduced it to three years. The ban started from his provisional suspension date. All results from 31 January 2025 are disqualified.
