Katsina Government cracks down on bandit networks, bans jerrycan fuel sales and others

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has announced sweeping new security measures aimed at disrupting the operations of bandits and other criminal groups across the state.

The governor, through a fresh Executive Order issued following an emergency security meeting with security agencies, traditional rulers, and key stakeholders, imposed an immediate statewide ban on the sale, purchase, transportation, and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans.

According to Governor Radda, the restriction is designed to cut off fuel supplies to criminal elements who operate from forests and remote hideouts, thereby weakening their ability to sustain attacks and evade security forces.

As part of the directive, all Point of Sale (POS) outlets and commercial phone charging centres in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas have been ordered to shut down immediately.

The government said intelligence reports revealed that some of these facilities were allegedly being used by criminal networks to coordinate and support their activities.

The Executive Order also introduced a total ban on the use of motorcycles within the two local government areas.

Authorities believe the measure will limit the mobility of bandits and kidnappers, who frequently rely on motorcycles to launch attacks and escape security operatives.

Governor Radda said the actions form part of a broader strategy to restore peace and security in Katsina State, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies as efforts intensify to dismantle criminal networks operating within the region.
