Managerial chaos deepens at Nottingham Forest as Super Eagles duo prepare for fourth boss
Nottingham Forest’s turbulent campaign has taken another dramatic turn, with Nigerian internationals Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi set to work under a fourth manager this season following the dismissal of Sean Dyche.
The club confirmed in the early hours of Thursday that Dyche had been relieved of his duties, barely 114 days after his appointment. The decision came on the heels of Wednesday night’s goalless Premier League draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers a result that further dragged Forest into the relegation dogfight.
“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach,” the club announced. “We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club, and we wish them the best of luck for the future.”
Dyche, who joined in October on a contract running until 2027, becomes the third Forest manager to lose his job this term, following the exits of Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou. The revolving door at the City Ground underscores a season defined by instability and mounting pressure.
Forest currently occupy 17th position on the Premier League table, hovering just above the relegation zone after a three-match winless run. With 12 games left, every point is crucial in their battle for survival.
Dyche’s final outing in charge reflected Forest’s season in microcosm plenty of effort but little reward. Despite firing 35 attempts at goal against Wolves, they failed to find the net. After the match, the 54 year old acknowledged the uncertain nature of modern football management.
“The owner (Evangelos Marinakis) has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt,” Dyche said. “If the owner wants to make a change, then that’s up to him, and that’s the way football is now that’s the reality of it.”
For Aina and Awoniyi, the latest shake-up means adapting once again to a new tactical blueprint at a decisive stage of the season. Both players have navigated shifting systems and technical approaches under three different managers already a scenario that can disrupt rhythm and cohesion.
With a Europa League first leg clash against Fenerbahce looming next Thursday, Forest are expected to fast-track the appointment of a new head coach in a bid to steady the ship.
As uncertainty swirls off the pitch, Aina and Awoniyi will be hoping their performances on it can help steer Forest clear of danger in what promises to be a tense run in.
