Reps Committee on Pensions Commends PTAD’s Reforms During Oversight Visit

The House of Representatives Committee on Pensions on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, paid an oversight visit to the headquarters of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) in Abuja to assess its operations and review the agency’s budget performance for 2024 and the first half of 2025.

Led by its Chairman, Honourable Jallo Hussaini Mohammed, the Committee engaged PTAD management in a comprehensive session that focused on budget execution, pension reforms, and the welfare of retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme.

In her welcome remarks, the Executive Secretary of PTAD, Dr. Tolulope Odunaiya, expressed appreciation to the lawmakers for their consistent support and collaboration. She outlined the Directorate’s progress, including the successful implementation of the 20/28 percent pension increment effective January 2024, which was captured in the September 2024 payroll, as well as the settlement of accrued arrears. She explained that PTAD has continued to fund arrears payments arising from the N32,000 increment and other pension adjustments through prudent management of balances in the pension sub-head after meeting monthly obligations.

Odunaiya further revealed that PTAD had secured Presidential approval for the inclusion of critical pension-related items in the 2026 budget proposal. She reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to the welfare of pensioners, while noting the challenges that require legislative support to strengthen pension administration.

Responding, Honourable Jallo Hussaini Mohammed commended PTAD for its remarkable strides in pension administration, particularly in enhancing payments and service delivery to retirees.

He assured that the Committee would continue to work closely with the Directorate to ensure that the welfare of pensioners remains a national priority.
