Super Falcons set for Portugal showdown in Pre-WAFCON build up
Nigeria’s Super Falcons will storm Portugal on Sunday for an international friendly as they intensify preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, according to Nigeria Football news.
The nine-time African champions are expected to face the Portuguese women’s national team, who are also gearing up for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025. The match is designed to sharpen the Falcons’ competitiveness ahead of their WAFCON campaign.
Insiders at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) revealed on Wednesday that the encounter will provide head coach Justine Madugu with a vital opportunity to test his tactical setup and assess player readiness against strong European opposition.
Details such as the match venue, kick-off time, and the official 24-player squad are expected to be released in the coming days.
Nigeria is placed in Group B for the 2024 WAFCON alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana. The tournament kicks off on July 5 in Morocco. The Super Falcons are aiming to reclaim the continental crown they last won in 2018.
