Vusumizi Vilakazi admits Stanley Nwabali's exit hit Chippa United hard
Chippa United head coach Vusumizi Vilakazi has openly acknowledged that the exit of Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali represents a serious setback for the South African Premier League side.
Nwabali’s departure from the Chilli Boys earlier this week surprised many observers in the South African football scene, given his growing influence and reputation at both club and international levels.
Reacting to the development, Vilakazi admitted the goalkeeper’s absence will be strongly felt, especially after his standout displays for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
“It is definitely a blow for us, considering what Stanley achieved in Morocco,” Vilakazi said.
“Obviously, his decision and everything surrounding it did not involve me. It was a discussion between him and the chairman Chippa Mpengesi, and they agreed to part ways.
“I can only work with players who are within the system. If there is a need to bring in another goalkeeper to increase competition, we will do so.”
Nwabali earned widespread recognition following his impressive AFCON performances, where he played a vital role for the Super Eagles and drew attention from across the continent.
His exit now leaves Chippa United with the task of strengthening their goalkeeping options as they prepare for the rest of the season.
