Francis Uzoho arrives Eagles camp in Cairo as early bird ahead of AFCON 2025
Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has become the first player to report to Nigeria’s camp in Cairo, Egypt, as Eric Chelle’s side begin preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Nigeria will hold a short training camp in Egypt, where they are scheduled to face seven-time African champions Egypt in an international friendly on December 16, before travelling to Morocco for the 35th edition of the AFCON, which runs from December 21 to January 18.
According to team officials, the Super Eagles’ camp is based at the Renaissance Hotels in Cairo and officially opened on Sunday, December 14. Players are expected to join the squad gradually after completing their club commitments over the weekend.
Uzoho arrived at camp at about 2:00 a.m. on Sunday and has linked up with the coaching crew and backroom staff, who were already on ground in Egypt to receive the players as they arrive.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper comes into camp in good form, having kept a clean sheet in Omonia Nicosia’s UEFA Europa Conference League match last Thursday, delivering an impressive performance for the Cypriot side.
Fellow goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has also arrived in camp, joining Uzoho and the technical team as preparations gather pace.
Meanwhile, the likes of Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Chidozie Awaziem and Moses Simon are expected to arrive early, having featured for their respective clubs on Friday and Saturday.
Nigeria are drawn in Group C of the tournament alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. The Super Eagles will kick off their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on December 23 in Fes.
