10-year-old junior Aruna mirrors Quadri father's legacy with podium finish in Luxembourg

Nigeria’s table tennis legacy continues to thrive through a new generation as 10 year old Junior Aruna stepped into the spotlight with an impressive outing at the World Table Tennis Youth tournament in Luxembourg.

Drawing clear parallels with the exploits of his father, Aruna Quadri, the young star showcased remarkable skill and composure beyond his age, clinching a silver medal in the Under-11 category and a bronze in the Under-13 division. His performance not only earned him international recognition but also reinforced the growing belief that Nigeria’s dominance in the sport is in safe hands.

Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, praised the youngster’s achievement, describing it as a direct reflection of the strong table tennis heritage within the Quadri family.

" Having an exciting young talent like junior Quadri is a big plus to Nigerian sports and the future of Nigerian table tennis. And I must commend Aruna Quadri and his beautiful wife Qaniat for the good job they are both doing in the lives of their young kids".

He further acknowledged the crucial role played by Junior’s mother, Qaniat Quadri, who has been instrumental in his development as both a parent and coach.

" I am aware that Qaniat Quadri, who is a former player herself, is the personal coach of her son and she has been training the 10yr old young star and his sister to achieve this global recognition".

Reiterating the Commission’s commitment to nurturing young talents, Olopade assured the family of continuous institutional support.

" I want to assure Aruna Quadri and his wife that the Sports Commission is proud of what they are doing in the lives of their young kids and we will always be available to provide every kind of support to further earnest the full potentials of these young stars", he stated.

He concluded by emphasizing that with emerging talents like Junior and several other promising Nigerian athletes, the country’s sporting future is not only bright but poised for sustained global success.

From father to son, the legacy of excellence continues this time, with a young prodigy already carving his own path on the international stage.
