Ahudiyannem Queens chairman calls on elite players to join newly promoted NWFL Premiership side

Chairman of Ahudiyannem Football Club, Dr. Robert Daniel Onyeani, has urged top players across Nigeria to join Ahudiyannem Queens as the team gears up for its debut season in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.

The Abiriba-born businessman and philanthropist, who recently hosted the 2025 NWFL Championship in Abiriba, Abia State, said the club’s vision extends beyond survival at the elite level, with a bold ambition to compete for continental honours in the near future.

“Come to Ahudiyannem Queens and enjoy good football and packages. All good players in the league, come to Ahudiyannem Queens. We are ready to host you, and you will see the light of day here,” Onyeani declared.

Onyeani, who founded the club in honour of his late mother, Ahudiyannem, said his mission goes beyond chasing silverware, with a strong emphasis on grassroots development and giving young players international exposure.

“When I started, my target was to play in the top flight and take the team to Africa. Ahudiyannem is for my mother. The only way to make that name reach the top is to play in the Premiership and compete for continental glory,” he said.

The philanthropist also revealed plans to invest in facilities in Abiriba, including a modern stadium and a full-fledged academy for both male and female footballers.

“Next year, we will see a different pitch and stadium. We are also working on an academy where young players will be nurtured. Hopefully, within the next 12 months, it will be ready,” Onyeani added.

While acknowledging the support of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the NWFL board, Onyeani urged corporate organisations to invest in women’s football, stressing that sponsorship remains the biggest stumbling block to growth.

“For a country as big as Nigeria, to win the Champions League is still a problem. Until corporate bodies begin to identify with Nigerian football, we will still lag behind,” he warned.

Ahudiyannem Queens, reigning Abia FA Cup champions, sealed promotion to the NWFL Premiership after topping Group B1 at the 2025 NWFL Championship on home soil.
