Bendel Insurance unveils Kennedy Boboye and new kits

Bendel Insurance Football Club unveiled their new head coach, Kennedy Boboye, alongside the club’s new kits, marking the beginning of a new era in their quest to return to the top ranks of Nigerian football.

The unveiling ceremony, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Media Centre in Benin City, drew key figures from the Edo State Sports Commission, club executives, supporters, and other football stakeholders, including Edo FA chairman Fred Newton Erhunmwunsee.

Speaking at the event, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele described Boboye’s appointment as a deliberate and strategic step toward reviving Bendel Insurance’s competitive edge in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

“This is not just about unveiling a coach. It’s a decisive step in rebuilding this great club into a consistent contender,” Enabulele said.

“Bendel Insurance is not a mid-table team. We are a club with a proud history, passionate supporters, and lofty ambitions.”

Enabulele further explained that the decision to part ways with the previous coach was made in the club’s best interest after a poor run of results left the Benin Arsenal languishing in the lower half of the NPFL standings.

“Our fans and sponsors deserve more, and we are determined to deliver,” he added, expressing confidence in Boboye’s track record and leadership qualities.

Boboye, who has won two NPFL titles with Plateau United in 2017 and Akwa United in 2021, was described as “a proven winner” who embodies the mentality needed to restore Bendel Insurance’s glory days.

Club Chairman, Hon. Emperor Jarrett Tenebe urged players to embrace discipline and unity under the new coach.

“Coach Boboye will instill tactical discipline and a winning mentality. If the players stay committed and follow his instructions, success will follow,” Tenebe noted, adding that management remains committed to providing a conducive environment for success.

Representatives of the club’s board and supporters’ group also pledged total support for Boboye and expressed optimism that the team will soon rediscover its form.

The event featured a highlight reel of Boboye’s career achievements, presentation of branded club caps to dignitaries, and loud cheers from fans as the new coach was formally presented.

A former Super Eagles striker, Boboye enjoyed a successful playing career with Sharks of Port Harcourt, Udoji United, and European sides SV Sterling and KFC Uerdingen before transitioning into coaching. He has since handled several NPFL teams, including Sunshine Stars, Abia Warriors, Plateau United, Remo Stars, Akwa United, and Heartland FC.

Boboye is expected to assume full duties immediately as Bendel Insurance prepare for their week 9 NPFL fixture against Rivers United in Benin.
