Dolphins set for final showdown with First Bank in Women's Basketball League
The stage is set for a blockbuster finale as Dolphins and First Bank this season’s only unbeaten sides go head-to-head in the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball Premier League finals.
Dolphins punched their ticket to the championship game with a commanding 66–54 win over Royal Aces. They seized control early and tightened their grip in the third quarter before fending off a late fightback in the fourth. The win marks Dolphins’ first final appearance in seven years.
Tewo Mololuwa was the star of the game posting 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while Anari Favour added 15 points and three steals. Despite Ruth Udueyin’s 14-point effort, Royal Aces fell short of stopping Dolphins’ march to the final.
In the other semifinal, nine-time champions, First Bank survived a nail-biting 47–45 victory over defending champions MFM. First Bank started brightly, but MFM swung momentum their way and led by five at halftime. The clash turned into an end-to-end thriller in the final two quarters, with First Bank edging ahead late to secure their first final berth since 2018.
Isaac Abigail stood tall for MFM with a double-double (16 points, 12 rebounds), but Marylyn Ogoibe’s gritty display 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals proved crucial in First Bank’s push to the finish line.
That sets up a tantalizing Final: Dolphins vs. First Bank, while MFM and Royal Aces will battle for third place.
Both the finals and the third-place game are slated for September 20, with the winner of the final pocketing 7.5 million Naira
