Donald Trump administration waives $15,000 visa bond for African fans attending World Cup

Football supporters from five African nations heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States have received a major boost after the US government suspended a controversial visa bond policy tied to the tournament.

The administration of US President Donald Trump had earlier introduced a rule requiring travelers from selected countries with high visa overstay rates to pay a refundable security deposit of up to $15,000 before entering the United States.

Among the 50 countries affected by the policy were five nations that have already secured qualification for the World Cup Algeria, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal and Tunisia.

However, authorities have now granted a temporary exemption to supporters from those countries, provided they possess valid tickets for World Cup matches.

The decision is expected to ease travel concerns for thousands of football fans planning to attend the global tournament, while also helping boost international participation and atmosphere at the competition across the United States.
