Future Eagles set to resume camp in Abuja ahead of FIFA U-15 World Cup
Nigeria's U-15 national team, the Future Eagles, are set to resume camping in Abuja this week as preparations gather pace for the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival 2026 in Azerbaijan.
The team had previously assembled in camp but were released following the resumption of their school programmes. Their return leaves the young players with less than three weeks to complete their preparations for the historic tournament.
Nigeria have been drawn in Group A alongside Cyprus, Gambia, Jordan, Pakistan and South Sudan. The competition is scheduled to take place in Azerbaijan from October 24 to 30, 2026.
The inaugural tournament will introduce a new eight-a-side format, bringing together U-15 teams from around the world for a week-long celebration of youth football.
Six matchdays have been scheduled, with about 950 matches expected to be played and approximately 3,000 participants taking part in the festival.
Unlike the traditional FIFA World Cup format, all participating teams will remain involved throughout the competition. Their results will determine which competitive tier they enter as the festival progresses.
For Nigeria's young players, the tournament represents an opportunity to gain valuable international experience, face opponents from different football backgrounds and showcase their talent on the global stage.
With their return to camp this week, the Future Eagles will aim to maximise the limited time available as they fine-tune their squad before travelling to Azerbaijan for the first-ever FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival.
