Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen is reportedly on course to return to action for Galatasaray after the current international break as he continues his recovery from a muscle injury.

Turkish media reports indicate that the Nigerian forward could be available for Galatasaray’s Süper Lig meeting with Kasımpaşa on October 9, giving the Turkish champions a potential boost after the international window. 

Osimhen has remained with Galatasaray during the international break after withdrawing from Nigeria’s squad for the opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The striker was initially included in Eric Chelle’s squad for the matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau but was subsequently ruled out after his recovery from the injury took longer than initially anticipated. 

The injury was sustained during Galatasaray’s 3–2 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir earlier in September. Subsequent medical examinations identified an advanced-moderate strain involving the right adductor muscle group. 

Osimhen has since missed several matches, including Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Sporting Lisbon and domestic league fixtures against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.

Galatasaray are reportedly using the international break to continue an intensive treatment programme for Osimhen as the club works towards his return to full fitness. 

The Nigerian was also unavailable when Galatasaray suffered a 4–0 defeat away to Trabzonspor on September 19, with his absence adding to the club’s attacking concerns. 

His expected return against Kasımpaşa would come after a period of rehabilitation and could provide Galatasaray with an important attacking option as the club resumes domestic and European commitments.

Osimhen had made an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign before the injury, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his first four appearances for Galatasaray. 

For Nigeria, the development will be closely monitored as the Super Eagles prepare for subsequent international assignments following the September AFCON qualifying window.

Nigeria are currently preparing to face Madagascar in Uyo on September 25 before travelling to Guinea-Bissau for their second Group L qualifier on September 29, with Osimhen unavailable for both fixtures. 

If his recovery continues as planned, Osimhen could therefore return to competitive action for Galatasaray in early October, with the Kasımpaşa fixture currently identified as the target date.
